The 2017 Masters Road Championship have wrapped up with Australia's best masters cyclists contesting three days of competition on the Gold Coast, 27-29 October 2017.
Simone Grounds (Dubbo) and Gaye Lynn (Sutherland Shire) completed a clean sweep of the women's 3 and 8+ categories respectively, picking up gold in the time trial, road race and criterium in a strong showing. Claiming the time trial and road double was Troy Herfoss (Goulburn-Men 1), Peter Milostic (Penrith-Men 3) and Anna Davis (Coburg-Women 5). Also picking up two national titles with success in the criterium and road race was Trevor Hyde (Sutherland Shire-Men 7), Danny Clarke (Gold Coast-Men 8), Mick Patton (Sunshine Coast-Men 9), Ashleigh Elliott (Hamilton Wheelers-Women 1), Justine Barrow (Coburg-Women 2), Nicky Rolls (Brisbane-Women 4) and Clare Johnston (Gold Coast-Women 7). Sunday's 18.7km closed-road circuit used acted as a key operational trial for April's Commonwealth Games Games road race. "I wanted to tick the box of racing on the Commonwealth Games course" said Men's 1 road race and time trial champion Troy Herfoss. "We have such nice roads around here (Gold Coast) and to ride on a fully closed road, where the best in the world will be riding so we can compare our times, is great. "When I’m watching race at the 2018 Games in April I’ll be able to relate to it a bit more."
